I found that having a secret alter space in a park or even inside a building that no one knows about is a significant help for me in meditating and thinking...
does anyone else have the same practice
(an actual physical location that has been set up secretly as such?)

  • Actuallllly, yes. ;-)

Outside my workplace, across the street there is a HUGE fountain. I'm talkin' HUGE. Like it's used as a swimming pool for the downtown residents in the summertime. There are many levels and platforms and it's surrounded by beautiful towering pines. When the weather permits (and the city has turned on the fountain), I go there during lunch to hear the rushing sound of the water, feel the breeze against my face and the warmth of the sun.

I take a journal with me as well so I may either do a "writing ritual" or simply jot down what thoughts come to mind.
  • Absolutly, and I've found it helpful for focusing. I think we can prcatice anywhere, but certain places have an energy flow that mean more to different people. I've also found that when doing meditation or healing work, if I even visualize my space when I'm not at it, my workings are more effective. Thanks for bringing this topic up.

Yes, yes! I thought I was the only one who thought/did this. :-)

There's a wonderful spot a few blocks away from my apartment, tucked into the fabric of the neighborhood. Hidden in plain sight, so to speak. I felt powerfully drawn to it, even before I was consciously exploring spiritual life.
