Re: Just a note
Sun, May 13, 2007 - 9:18 PMI'm not convinced I can be normal without being a witch. :) But I've been trying for years to find my niche where I "fit in" better ... evolve or die right? :) so I figured it couldn't hurt to try and hob some nobs with folks who seem to have a better handle on it than I. :) Like what they say about learning to create more money in your life, you have to surround yourself with people who are better at it than you are. -

Re: Just a note
Mon, May 14, 2007 - 10:23 AMI prefer being weird. But I'm just weird normally. Course, though, I also look normal walking down the street. As normal as a 335 lb woman can look, I suppose. ;)
But if you are talking about those pagans who feel the need to "look" different, then yes, I agree with you. You can be normal and be different at the same time. :)
Blessings and Welcome!

Tue, May 15, 2007 - 8:44 AMHail Mama Gaea! Well said all.
"What is normal?"
I don't know, I don't know that anyone knows.
There is conformity to certain groups and communities but there is not "normalcy."

Tue, May 15, 2007 - 2:27 PMCognitive Dissonance and the Milgram Experiment ... heh :)
I think the sheer diversity of human culture at large is proof enough that there is no universal "social norm". -

Re: Just a note
Tue, May 15, 2007 - 7:24 PMHey, as long as no one tells me I need to conform with the "social norm", I'll go along with it.

Just a note
Wed, June 6, 2007 - 6:56 AMNormal, well apparently I have to explain normal. You can be your self, you do not have to hide your religion or dress like the movies' say that we dress. We can be who we are out in public no matter how weird or big we are. I'm a witch and I'm not ugly nor do I wear drab clothes because I commune with nature. I'm Proud of who and what I am. why bitch about being normal? I just want to be as proud as any christain of my religion, that is normal to me. I'm not weird, I'm Unique!! -

Re: Just a note
Wed, June 6, 2007 - 9:25 AMI think that's a laudable goal for social change. General tollerance / acceptance of others. :) The Unitarian Universalist church does a pretty good job of it imo... though in retrospect, I take back what I said before -- there is one universal human "social norm" and that's popularity / conservativism. The simple fact that people are subtly conditioned by their culture in certain ways -- although those ways vary dramatically from one culture to the next. Good example. Anybody here eat bugs on a regular basis? Why not? I know why I don't -- because the thought creeps me out! :P We're conditioned to have that response to bugs. Meanwhile the Chinese buy scoopfulls of scorpions and eat them like popcorn. :P

Fri, June 15, 2007 - 6:49 AMNormal???Moi??? Perish the thought! *chuckle!*
I agree about being yourself. It's one of the things I do best! I've taken a unique approach, i guess. I mean, where I live, I'm the only one who dresses as I do.I hide nothing from anyone, for any reason. Add to that the fact that I play in a Rock Band, and I do tend to stand out a bit. Not intentionally, it's just who I am!
The way I see it, life is made to explore, so I don't bother trying to "fit in". I just enjoy being me! I'm proud of being a Witch!
